Seville! and a crazy man.

I had SOO much fun in Seville this weekend! You have no idea how good it was to see Sarah! It's so nice to see people from home. :)

We got in sorta late Thursday night, and Sarah was ready and waiting for us at the hostel. We changed and went out to meet up with some of her friends. Much fun was had by all! Didn't get back to the hostal til after 5am, I don't think.

Needless to say, we slept in til 1:30 the next day, and went to grab lunch. Sarah met up with us afterwards and took us on a mini walking tour of the city. We went to a few shops to look at shoes and purses, saw her school, the local university, Plaza de Espanya (which is BEAUTIFUL!), and some other streets and plazas. Then we walked across town to her apartment to meet her senora (and ended up making plans to come by the following day for tea). Then we walked back across town to go to an Irish pub where we had nachos and chicken sandwiches with fries. It was amazing to have some american-ish food! We went back to our hostel for a nap (which didn't happen because sarah and i ended up talking and laughing for an hour), then went out to meet up with some more of her friends. It's crazy to be in a city with virtually no drinking laws. You buy your drink and take it out in to the street and just chill. It's called botelloning and it's the best idea ever. We got kinda overwhelmed by the crowds and we were tired, though, so we called it a night not long after.

The next day we had to get up by noon to check out of our hostal and move to the second one. We got there to find out that we had been booked at a different hostal within their little chain, so we had to walk all the way back past where we started to find the new one. The guy at the new hostal was SO cute. It was this little old man who treated us like his grandchildren. He took out a map and sat down with us and showed us everything to see in the city and made a list of all these flamenco shows that we could go to. He told us to make sure we left our passports in the room, and every time we left he reminded us to watch our purses. It was so sweet. He even told my my Spanish was really good... which definitely made my day!

We went and grabbed lunch, went back to the hostel for showers, then headed out to see the Alcazar and the cathedral. The cathedral was basically closed by the time we got there but we did an audio tour of the Alcazar. It was SO pretty! I really liked it. Then we went to meet up with Sarah for tea with her Senora. Boy does her senora talk a lot! It was fun though! She loves hugging and kissing us, which is SO different than our senora. We walked around her apartment looking at the photographs of all her family members while she explained them to us. I could tell that she was so proud of her family. After that we went to dinner at a delicious little italian cafe and then went to meet up with one of her friends. We went to a few bars along the river, and just had a ton of fun laughing and taking pictures. We ran into some guys from Texas Tech at one of the bars which was pretty random. After some churros con chocolate we called it a night since we had a flight to catch in the morning.

We woke up this morning to realize that our phones hadn't automatically changed because of daylight savings time. Luckily we were up an hour early, rather than oversleeping for an hour. We made it to the airport WAY too early, but relaxed at the airport for a while, and made it home safe and sound.

I've got a midterm tomorrow and no motivation to study for it.... oh well!

We just had the strangest experience ever at dinner. We didn't really understand everything that was going on, but basically some man that lives upstairs (who Elisabeth warned us was crazy) came over for dinner (but he got there late so we were already done eating by the time he arrived) and we just sat there while he talked to Elisabeth some. Then Elisabeth's phone keeps on ringing and she keeps leaving us sitting there with this random crazy man for 5-10 minutes at a time while she goes to talk on the phone. It was insanely awkward and it took all the strength I had not to laugh out loud as we sat there in complete silence. Eventually Elisabeth got some phone call and came in to talk to this man about it... What I got from the conversation was that some Arabic guy, who's 24, is coming to Barcelona for some reason and needs a place to stay and they asked Elisabeth, but she can't do it since she's not allowed to have boys in the house with us, and she wanted this guy to take him. She said that he could eat dinner with us and stuff, but he just needed a place to sleep at this crazy man's apartment upstairs. Crazy man tells her that his house is a mess, he has papers for work everywhere and there's NO way that he can have it straightened up by tomorrow when this guy comes. Then Elisabeth starts getting really pushy and trying to convince this guy... and he's getting kinda mad. Then she leaves to go make a phone call and he starts to get up to leave, I think he said he was leaving because he felt bad keeping us from our studies. So then I felt kinda bad. But then he walks back in and says that Elisabeth won't let him leave because she wants to talk to him more.... Eventually Elisabeth comes back, and tells us to do the dishes because she wants to talk to this guy in the other room. An hour later he finally leaves and Elisabeth comes in our room and says "so you got to see the crazy guy." And we laughed... but mostly because Megan and I are SOOO ridiculously confused. I wish I knew what happened at my house tonight....
